Fourteen years after it first appeared and 10 years after its last major restyle, the third generation of the Peugeot Speedfight scooter will arrive in the UK during summer 2009. Sports scooters account for nearly one in five sales to European riders in this sector and over half a million Speedfights have been manufactured and sold to date, so the designers at Peugeot have paid attention to retaining the sporting lines and distinctive appearance of the first Speedfight, while up-rating the functionality of the all-new Speedfight 3.

Central to the new design is the revised chassis, with the fuel tank relocated to a central position under the floor pan, which significantly lowers the centre of gravity. Combined with 32mm hydraulic forks (replacing the single arm on previous models) and larger 13” wheels, this gives class-leading handling. Braking gets the latest technology too – for the first time Peugeot have fitted a dual piston radial calliper, which works with the 215mm Shuricane front disc brake for powerful and controllable stopping power. The relocated fuel tank is expanded to hold 8.5 litres (2 gallons), so the Speedfight 3 has a potential range of up to 150 miles. Under the seat is a substantial storage bay and there is even a dual function 12V socket so that mobile phones can be charged on the move

The Satelis boasts a completely modern look and includes numerous features to improve ease of operation and to enhance comfort. Class-leading weather protection, handling, and storage, combined with a low seat height make the Satelis a great ride for anyone.

Fitted as standard on the Executive version, the sophisticated ABS-PBS braking system, combining Integrated braking + Power-assistance + ABS, outclasses every other competing scooter on the market by offering total rider safety and an astounding reduction in braking distances. This makes major impact in difficult conditions: poor road traction, changes in road surface, and situations many riders generally cannot handle.

The Executive version is also fitted with an Abus security chain which is anchored to the chassis of the bike within the storage compartment, and can be used to secure the bike to a railing or lamppost.

Following hot on the heels of the Satelis 125, which has been praised for its levels of refinement in terms of specification, build quality and performance, the 250cc version from Peugeot takes the French manufacturer into new territory and is its first model in this capacity sector. At the heart of the Satelis is a modern 22 HP 4-stroke liquid cooled 4-valve motor, making this maxi scooter more than capable of coping with traffic flow on trunk roads and motorways. The 250cc Satelis delivers much of the comfort and convenience found in today’s cars. The generous seat will carry rider and passenger in comfort, while the dashboard features an LCD display, a glove compartment capable of holding a litre size bottle of water and even a 12V power socket. Its aspherical rear view mirrors provide wide-angle vision while the dual halogen headlights (as used in the Peugeot 407 car) provide 30% more light on high beam. Carrying capacity is catered for with a cavernous storage bay beneath the seat, which lifts using a hydraulic jack, similar to those found on hatchback cars. Its low seat height (784mm), low weight (161KG) and ergonomic riding position ensure safe and easy handling for a wide variety of people. Even the shape of the Satelis is aerodynamically engineered for the best drag coefficient on the market, enhancing both performance and fuel economy.

Peugeot's new 500cc maxi scooter has the power and control to make any journey a pleasure, whether up the motorway or through crowded city streets. The Euro 3 compliant 500cc engine fitted to the Satelis has plenty of torque and combined with high quality suspension and DSL frame technology it delivers the performance and handling of a middle-weight motorcycle, while its aerodynamic bodywork, ergonomic riding position and assorted storage bays provide exceptional levels of comfort for a two-wheeler. The Satelis 500 is packed with user-friendly ideas. There is a lockable side compartment with a 12V socket for recharging a mobile phone (and space for a litre bottle of water) as well as an inbuilt storage bay in the centre of the handlebars that is ideal for an MP3 player, sunglasses, etc. Beneath the seat there is additional carrying capacity for laptop, shopping or luggage and access is made easy thanks to an auto-hydraulic system that lifts the seat smoothly and keeps it wide open. Measuring 170mm (diagonally) its rear view mirrors are the widest on the market and the dual halogen headlights (borrowed from Peugeot's 407 car) inspire confidence when riding in the dark. The low seat height (784mm) makes the Satelis easy to handle for smaller riders and the generous leg room behind the front body panels will appeal to taller ones.
